January 22nd - 23rd - Refresh ladies weekend

Members of Refresh continue to meet in the various groups throughout the week.

Mary’s Teas. Back in September last year, Mary, a member of Refresh felt called by God to
invite the elderly people who are visited each week along to the No8 Club and have a tea party!
Mary cooks them a lovely home cooked meal with plenty of cakes and scones for afters. They
can chat to their peers and lifelong friends who they havent seen for years. They play games,
sometimes have a short time of worship and have a speaker come in to give a short talk on faith.
Transport is provided by Marys husband Peter and the care and attention these elderly and
often forgotten members of our community receive is first class. Some of the group who come
along have been lifelong friends but because of illness, or frailty they haven’t been able to meet
for years.

Please pray for Mary and her team as they reach out to the elderly

Work with Children, families and young people:-Stepping Stones is church for 2-4 year olds
and their parents and carers. This continues to take place each Monday and has become an
integral part of many families week.

Boulder Gang is a group for primary 1-3’s which takes place in the No8 building after school on
Thursdays, and this is followed by Rock Solid Crew for primary 4-7’s. The groups are run in 6
week blocks and there are social events in between – games nights, activity sessions, movie
nights, adventure walks etc. The sessions see the children split into teams where they can win
points and gunge the leader of the losing team! Each week we follow a theme based on a bible
story and a memory verse and we include games (often messy!), worship, and prayer. It’s very
loud and lively and the children seem to love it! We have an average of 20 primary school
children coming along each week, with 16 of those not attending any other form of church.

In June we took a group of 32 of these young people to ‘Spree’ a Christian residential
weekend. They all had a great time and are already looking forward to going back next year. We
give thanks to God for the encouragement of seeing so many young people from Newcastleton
having the opportunity to engage with the weekend. We will continue to nurture and disciple
them through the ongoing Boulder Gang and Rock Solid groups.

Deeper is a home group for teenagers, which meets each Sunday in the Church Army house we
have at 3 Whitchester Lane. The aim if the group is to disciple the young people who come
along and to encourage them to grow deeper in their relationship with God. The evening
consists of games, a talk and discussion with food. On average of 12 young people attend
regularly.

We see youth work as a priority this year so we are looking at new ways of developing youth work for 2011.

As the Refresh evolves and more people become involved in the various groups within Refresh
community, it is clear that God is stirring hearts of others to join with us and volunteer in various
ways. If you would like to get involved with Refresh or if you think Refresh could serve you in some way call Elaine or Paul on 75471

cheers

Paul
